Photocatalytic removal of furfural in wastewater using UV light in the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles and determination of degradation mechanismهفتمین کنگره ملی مهندسی شیمی
In the present study the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of furfural in wastewater was studied. The impregnation method was used to immobilize the TiO2 nano particles on a glass support material. The performance of this coated glass plate was tested into a photocatalytic reactor. The intermediate products that produced in during of reaction have been analyzed by HPLC and HPLC–MASS. Concerning the degradation mechanism of furfural, there are three steps generally expected, including aldehyde group oxidation, photo–oxidation of aromatic ring and cleavage of ring. The intermediates of photo–oxidation of furfural were maleic and 2, 3–Dihydroxy–succinic (tartaric), acids.<\div>
