The application of mesoporous montmorillonite in cesium removal from solution was studied. Montmorillonite is defined as clay from the smectitefamily having a unique layered morphology withlayer spacing in the nanometer range. Response surface methodology, in combination with central composite face–cantered design (RSM–CCF), wasused to investigation and optimization the operating parameters. The Cs+ concentration, temperature andpH were chosen as the variables, and the response parameters was adsorption percent of cesium to achieve maximum percentage adsorption. It wasconfirmed that the adsorption process was strongly dependent on the Cs+ ion concentration, pH and temperature. At the optimal condition more than 99percent of cesium ion was adsorbed onto mesoporous montmorillonite. The result of adsorption showed that the mesoporous montmorillonite could be used as an inorganic ion exchanger that is efficient and applicable in removal of cesium from the nuclearwastewater.<\div>
