۱Pilot–scale plant investigation of blocking mechanism in oily wastewater from refinery processes treatment by polymeric membrane filtration

Treatment of the oily and greasy wastewater of Tehran refinery using a microfiltration and ultrafiltration systems were experimentally studied. Investigations have been done to specify the mechanisms of membrane blocking for MF GRM and UF GRM, based on constant pressure filtration law and Hermia’s hypothesis. This paper presents the performances of MF GRM and UF GRM polymeric membranes with hydrophilic surface using synthetic feed and wastewater effluent of API unit in refinery’s processes. A comparison was made under optimum operating condition in a laboratory scale system in cross flow mode. After correlating the experimental results with the models data, the mechanisms of blocking have been found. The mechanism for MF GRM is intermediate blocking at the beginning of filtration, however, then changes to cake model at the end of filtration. The mechanism for UF GRM is a combination of pore blocking and standard blocking from the beginning of filtration and cake model at the end of filtration, SEM image of membrane cross–section and surface can help us in making the final decision about the actual mechanism of blockage.<\div>

۲Alkaline and acidic treatment of PAN ultrafiltration membranes for salt rejection increment

In this research, the surface and structure of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) ultrafiltration membranes were treated by annealing, soaking in alkaline and acidic solutionsrespectively for achieving to the best permeation properties of Na2SO4, MgSO4 and NaCl in the feed solution. Annealing at 70 ºC water bath, followed by 30 minutes hydrolysisusing 1 molar NaOH and 30 minutes HCl post treatment showed the best post treatment process. The final rejection of 85%, 45% and 49% for Na2SO4, MgSO4 and NaCl, which was obtained respectively, prooved this approach is a favorite candidate to improve the permeation properties for industrial operation and commercial applications<\div>

۳Influence of polymerization reaction time on the morphology and permeation properties of PAN\PA composite membranes

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN)\polyamide (PA) composite membranes were prepared by interfacial polymerization of trimesoylchloride (TMC) and piperazine (PIP) on the surface of supportmembranes. The variation of membrane performance and morphology was investigated by changing the reaction time of reactants. A series of structural analysis beside permeation test were applied as analytical experiments. The thickness and pore size of the active layerchanged clearly after changing the reaction time. The variation trend of membranes performance was different before and after 60 s reaction time as a result of pore size reduction and increment respectively around this time.<\div>
