Dense and uniform nanostructured ZnS thin films were deposited on polystyrene (PS) substrate using an environmetal friendly chemical bath deposition (CBD) method from an aqueoussolution containing nontoxic reagents. The effect of polymeric substrate on the morphology and compactness of the particle as well as optical properties of the ZnS thin films were examined byscanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy. UV–visspectroscopy data revealed the obtained ZnS films to have an optical band gap ranging from 3.4 to3.55 eV for ZnS thin films deposited on polystyrene substrates. These amounts of Eg are larger than Eg of bulk ZnS (Eg= 3.37 eV), showing quantum confinement effects<\div>

Nanostructured ZnS thin films were obtained by an environmental friendly CBD method using the nontoxic materials for 4h deposition time. ZnS thin films were investigated in terms of morphology, particle size and compactness by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The transmittance of the films in the visible region as well as roughness of the films was studied by the ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy and the atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively. The annealing effect in air atmosphere on the morphology, compactness, particle size, band gap energy and transmittance of the ZnS thin films were also investigated.<\div>
