Natural silk is excellent clothing materials with outstanding mechanical and aesthetics characteristics due to production of precious textile goods. However, silk lacks some important performance properties, such as wrinkle recovery, wash and wear, light stability, thermal stability, abrasion resistance and also water staining character which seriously impedes the general use of silk. Silk goods imposed to UV radiation undergo color fading and mechanical degradation. Some acid dyes which are widely used in dyeing silk fibers are sensitive to light. In aim of this research is to improve the light stability of silk fibers dyed with acid dye using ZnO nanoparticles. The silk fibers were scoured, dyed with acid dye and then coated with ZnO nanoparticles. The dip– pad– cure and formation methods were employed to make nano– crystals of ZnO on the fiber. SEM, EDAX and ash content were used to study the nano– ZnO coating on silk fibers. The colorimetric properties of coated fibers were measured. The effects of ZnO nanoparticles on CIELAB color coordinates. The wash and light fastness properties of samples were evaluated according to Standard ISO 105–CO5, daylight 105–BO1<\div>

۲Delphinium Zalil, a New Source of Natural Dye for Silk Dyeing

Delphinium Zalil from the family Ranunculaceae grows naturally in mountainous area of north–east of Iran. It has beautiful yellow flowers which contain flavonoids. In the present study, the flowers of D. Zalil was collected from the land, dried, powdered and extracted with different solvent systems. The extracts were subjected to HPLC separation and several chemical components were identified. Three main aglicones identified as quercetin, kaemferol, and apigenin. It is believed that quercetin is the main aglicone responsible for the color of the flowers in D. Zalil. It’s flowers were used for dyeing silk yarns and the dyeing process was optimized. The color strength values of yarns dyed with D. Zalil flowers proves that premordanting increase the absorption of dye to some extent. Dyed silk yarns present good light fastness compared to Blue Scale. The results of this research can also lead one to the optimum amount of mordant which is of special interest to environmentalists.<\div>

۳Dyeing Silk and Wool Yarns with Pistacia Atlantica Leaves

Today, natural colorants are emerging globally due to the fact that are safer and environmentally–friendly. Natural dyes have been employed in dyeing Persian carpet piles for many years. In this study, the dried pistacia Atlantica was used for dyeing wool and silk yarns. The Iranian wool and silk yarn was scoured, mordanted and then dyed with different amounts of dried pistacia Atlantica leaves. Taguchi statistical method was employed to find the effective factors and results of the planned experiments, in order to optimize the dyeing factors. The colorimetric properties of the dyed yarns were evaluated in CIELAB system. Pistacia Atlantica found to have good agronomic potential as a natural dye in Iran. Metal mordants when used in conjunction with pistacia and temperature were found to enhance the dyeability and its fastness properties. Therefore this natural dye has good scope in the commercial dyeing of wool and silk yarns used as Persian carpet piles.<\div>
