A comparative study was carried out on performance of an integrated rotating biological contactor and activated sludge system RBC–AS and an up –flow aerobic\ anoxic sludge fixed film UAASFF bioreactor removing nutrient . The eexperiments were conducted based on a central composite design CCD and analyzed using response surface methodology RSM . the systems performance were assessed by varying four significant independent variables for RBC–AS hydraulic retention time HRT chemical oxygen demand to amonical nitrogen ratio COD\N , internal recirculation from the aerobic to the anoxic zone R and rotating disks speed R and three variables for UAASFF bioreactor hydraulic retention time HRT , chemical oxygen demand to ammonical nitrogen ratio COD\N–NH4+,and aeration time.<\div>

Biokinetics coefficients in an innovative time –based control up–flow aerobic\ anoxic sludge fixed film UAASFF bioreactor treating a synthetic wastewater were estimated. An experimental unit with working volume 2.5 I consisted of tow main sections , bottom upflow activated sludge reactor and middle fixed film FF reactor. the UAASFF bioreactor was tested under different operating conditions by changing three independent variables HRT,COD:N:P ratio and aeration time. throughout the experiment the removal efficiency of TCOD was between 59.4 and 93.6% . in order to the kinetic analysis of organic removal different kinetic models monod , first – order second –order and stover –kincannon models were examined.<\div>
