TiO2–ZnO nanocomposite thin films with 1:1 molar ratio were prepared by sol–gel method. The effect of different annealing temperatures (300, 400, 500 and 600C on the optical and photoelectrochemical performance of the synthesized samples was investigated. According to UV–visible analysis, the band gap energy of the films decreased with increasing the annealing temperatures. Moreover, the stoichiometric formation of TiO2and ZnO in the prepared photoanodes was confirmed by x–ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In addition, studying photoelectrochemical properties of the synthesized thin films revealed that the highest measured photocurrent density was obtained for the samples annealed at 300 and 400oC temperatu<\div>
