۱Effect of asphaltene and inorganic materials on emulsion resolution and quality of Kharg island oil

The price of exporting oil of IOOC is defined by its quality. Desalters are one of the important equipments that affect the qualitative properties of produced oil, and their good design and operation conclude the oil with minimum BS&W and maximum API. These properties are in a direct relation to emulsion stability of desalter feed. In this work, the effect of asphalthene and inorganic material contents (vanadium, sodium, nickel and iron) on emulsion stability, BS&W and API of Forouzan, Abuzar, and Douroud 1 oil located in Kharg island was investigated. BS&W, API, and amount of asphalten and mentioned metals contents were measured. Emulsion of Doroud 1 oil with relatively high API, low concentration of asphalthene, and low inorganic materials is less stable than two others oil. For each type of investigated oil, increasing of inorganic materials is accompanied with increasing BS&W, and decreasing its quality (API).<\div>

۲Influence of process variables on instability of crude oil–water emulsion

The effect of temperature, pH, and demusifier's dosage on emulsion instability of Doroud 1, Abuzar, and Forouzan crude oil produced at Kharg Island (Iran) was investigated. Increase in temperature accelerated the solubility of resins and asphaltene present in the crude oil and significantly decreased the interfacial tension between the two phases. Experimental results showed that, optimum temperature for instability of three mentioned emulsions was about 60– 65°C and the emulsions was more stable at lower than 40°C. The emulsion stability decreased
with demulsifier dosage, because of decreasing interfacial tension. The optimum pH and dimulsifier dosage (at 60°C) for three emulsions were about 8–10 and 20–25mg\l respectively.<\div>

۳Effect of water level on individual residence time distribution curve of traditional oil–water separator

The flow behavior of crude oil and water in a pilot scale oil–water separator was investigated. In this study, crude oil (Drood) of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) located in Kharg Island was used. The separator had a diameter of 1.2m and length of 5.1m. The residence time distribution curves (RTD) were determined by injecting an impulse radioactive tracer (131I). Experiments were carried out for different water level of 0.5m, 0.7m, and 0.9m in the separator. Axial dispersion model with dead zone was applied to each stream. Effect of water level was investigated on liquid behavior including mean residence time (MRT), dead volume and vessel dispersion number of oil and water streams.<\div>
