Power loss reduction and voltage profile improvement are goals for electricity utilities. Distribution system reconfiguration and optimal capacitor placement are two of the low Cost available tools for Power loss reduction and voltage profile improvement. Reconfiguring the network means altering its topology by changing the status of normally opened and normally closed switches. This paper propose the use of plant grows simulation algorithm (PGSA) to optimize the distribution system reconfiguration with the aim to minimizing the active power losses, considering as constraints the radial characteristics of the distribution networks and feeder capacity. Also has been suggested the use of OCP environment in ETAP software to optimal capacitor placement to improve the voltage profile. The proposed method is tested on 33 bus test system and the results are significant<\div>

Today, due to increasing demand for electricity and limitation of generation, transmission and distribution, the Distributed Generation sources (DGs) arecommonly used in the power system. Distributed generations (DG) are electrical power resources that connected to the distribution network and near to the consumers.Optimal placement and sizing of distributed generation in the distribution system, is an important part of the employment of DG in the network. By proper sizing and allocation of distributed generation in radial distribution feeder, minimizes the power loss and improves the voltage profile. Allocation of distributed generation at nonoptimal places leads to increased power loss and reduced bus voltage profile. Themain objective of this paper is loss reduction and voltage profile improvement using the optimal installation of distributed generation in distribution systems. In this paper,for optimal placement and sizing of DG units, a new combination method based on sensitivity analysis and plant growth simulation algorithms (PGSA) is used. The proposed method is programmed using MATLAB software and tested in IEEE 96 bus distribution test system and the obtained results are satisfying.<\div>
