In this article we introduce a new version of Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) by which the effect of earthquake duration on the nonlinear dynamic response of the structure seems to be more obvious. We believe that the input energy of earthquakes is a better Intensity Measure (IM) than the spectral acceleration in first mode of the structure vibration (Sa(T1,5%)) for the study of duration effects. We used artificial acceleration time–histories simulated by the specific barrier model modified slightly for this study as well as real records apropriately selcted. Results confirm our proposed aproach.<\div>

the paper is intended to purpose a technique that permits the prediction of velocity pulse time history including the main problem of near source ground shaking forward directivity the strong motion is simply calculated by integrating the predicted waveforms aimed at making up the total number of ground motions. these earthquakes are interpreted to meet the standard code of practice ASCE–7–2010. sets of predictive attenuation relations in frequency domain are developed representing the prediction equation at each frequency the technique is implemented to the bam Iran region comparing the predicted waveforms at the three stations with those of the recorded data. the good agreement between the predicted seismograms and those of the recordings and also corresponding elastic response spectra confirm the reliability of the technique.<\div>

۳Comparison the structural nonlinear response under traditional IDA and Conditional Spectrum–based selected earthquakes for use in IDA

Selecting sufficient number of appropriate ground motions compatible with regional tectonic condition is a major step in Incremental Dynamic Analysis of structures (IDA). The article is intended to compare the nonlinear structural response of the selected four frames (two steel moment–resisting frames andtwo RC Special Moment Frames) through performing IDA using the traditional and Conditional Spectrum methods. First, the CMS and CS approaches are briefly explained and discussed. Theselected frames are dynamically nonlinearly analyzed using the traditional IDA and CS methods forfour hazard levels (50%, 10%, 2%, and 1 %). The plots of results obtained from the two approaches, in the form of mean curve, are compared and assessed. It is concluded that the CS method ends up with more reasonable results except in case where the frame shows structural instability as the result of using CS method. The necessity of performing more research work in this area is highlighted.<\div>

۴An Artificial Statistical Method to Estimate Seismicity Parameter from Incomplete Earthquake Catalogs, a Case Study in Metropolitan Tehran, Iran

Uncertainties in earthquake catalogs, earthquake recurrence parameters, and in the variation of ground motion parameters are often considered in the evaluation of seismic hazard analysis. The purpose of this study is to develop an artificial statistical procedure based on Bayes’ formulation and weighted bootstrap sampling to estimate seismicity parameter (b–value of the Gutenberg–Richter law) from both historical and instrumental data in a given region. The procedure allows for uncertainty in the period of completeness, and assigns different weights to historical seismicity as compared to instrumental seismicity. Variation of seismicity within seismic sources is allowed with this procedure. This variation generalizes the condition of spatially homogeneous seismicity within seismic sources and permits accurate representation of historical seismicity. As a case study, the earthquake catalog of the greater Tehran, Iran is considered to estimate seismicity parameters as well as probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) using the proposed procedure, and then the results are compared with those obtained from a conventional PSHA method. This comparison confirms the applicability of the procedure used in this study.
