۱Experimental Comparison of Catamaran and T Type Floating Breakwaters

In this paper, the influence of draft depth of a floating breakwater (FB) with an\two attached plate is studied experimentally and results are compared for different shapes. In addition, the influence of height of incident wave is studied and reflection, transmission and energy dissipation coefficients are calculated. For the modelstudies, a wave flume with a flap–type wave generator and a steep wave absorber was designed, constructed, and used to investigate the performance of floating breakwater under regular waves. With increasing in relative draft of FB, the performance of FB is enhanced remarkably, in other words, the reflection and energy dissipation coefficients increase and transmission coefficient decreases by penetration of attached plate inwater column. For waves with greater heights, the reflection coefficient increases significantly. According to this study, catamaran type FB (FB with attached plates in its front and back) has a better performance rather than T type FB (FB with attached plate in the middle part of the keel structure).<\div>

۲Retrofitting of Bridge Piers against the Scour damages: Case Study of the Marand–Soofian Route Bridge

Bridge piers which are constructed in the track of high water rivers cause some variations in the flow patterns. This variation is a result of the changes in river sections. Decreasing the river section, bridge piers significantly impress the flow patterns. Once the flow approaches the piers, the stream lines change their order, causing the appearance of different flow patterns around the bridge piers. New flow patterns are created following the geometry and the other technical characteristics of the piers. One of the most significant consequences of this event is the scour generated around the bridge piers which threatens the safety of the structure. In order to determine the properties of scour holes, to find maximum depth of the scour is an important factor. In this manuscript a numerical simulation of the scour around Marand–Soofian route bridge piers has been carried out via SSIIM 2.0 Software and the amount of maximum scour has been achieved subsequently. Eventually the methods for retrofitting of bridge piers against scours and also the methods for decreasing the amount of scour have been offered.<\div>

۳A Wavelet–ANN Approach to Investigate the Effect of Seasonal Decomposition of Time Series in Daily River Flow Forecasting

This paper presents the effect of seasonal decomposition of time series in daily flow forecasting. Models are developed for each season separately and a wavelet–neural network approach is applied to predict the flow discharge in Karaj River. Different combinations of the meteorological data (precipitation and temperature) and the flow discharge with different lag times and also different wavelet decomposition levels are used to find the best model performances. Discrete wavelet transform is used to decompose the original time series and the decomposed sub–time series are applied as the new input data for the neural network models. The study demonstrates that wavelet–neural network models can be used to predict the flow discharge successfully. Performances of seasonal models are compared with non–seasonal models. Comparisons show that the use of seasonal models instead of non–seasonal models provides a more accurate prediction of the river flow. Results of this study reveal that the best model for each season includes different input variables<\div>
