The article examines the link between the student–centered and practice–oriented approaches in preparing ecologists, which imply orientation towards students’ personality traits, perceiving the student as a subject of learning, facilitate one’s acquiring the necessary aptitudes, skills and important professional competencies to be able to successfully adapt to the professional environment on the labor market. Today there is demand for specialists who won’t need additional training when on the job. For college curricula to become practice–oriented, employers need to be urged to develop qualification requirements for specialties and graduates.
