Utilization of biogas fuels is important not only for energy recovery but also for preventing environmental pollution. The objective of this paper is to discuss the application of current method for the production of biogas from the municipal wastes in Shiraz landfill. With more than 600 tones of daily wastes and assuming the efficiency of obtainable gas to be 25%, biogas production with methane fermentation is estimated to be more than 1500 m3 per day. This is equivalent to about 2250 KWh of electricity. The benefits and costs of energy obtained through this method are also discussed.<\div>

Oil spills at sea are a major problem to the environment as they severely damage the surrounding ecosystems. Since crude oil is lighter than water, it floats on the sea surface. The initial treatment of an oil spill at sea includes mechanically skimming the water's surface, a mixture of floating oil, emulsified oil, tar balls, etc. will be taken onto the recovery barge and delivered for treatment and reclamation. A lab scale experimental research was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of different oily–water treatment technologies. This research investigated the effectiveness of Gravity Oil\Water Separation, Coagulation\Flocculation\Sedimentation, and Sand Filtration technologies. Effect of different parameters such as hydraulic residence time, type of coagulant, and coagulant dose were studied. It was concluded that more than 95% of oily compounds can be separated from oily–water waste which is an excellent step in preventing sea–water pollution.<\div>

۳comparison of treatability of young and old landfill leachate using anaerobic digester

A two–stage lab scale anaerobic digester was used for treatment of a high–strength young leachate from shiraz municipal landfill site . Leachate characteristics varied considerably during 8 months of study COD concentration of 48552–62150 mg\l it was found that the system could reduce the COD of the leahate by 92% AT A LOADING RATE OF 2.25Gcod\l\d and 90% at loading rate of 3.37 g COD\L\d . in the next stage a two –stage anaerobic digester was used for treatment of the old leachate from shiraz landfill for comparison . the study was conducted for a period of 7 month as with the case of young leachate characteristics varied considerabley COD concentration of 64350–91308 gCOD\L\d.<\div>
