This paper, evaluate the automatic reactive power control of isolated wind–diesel hybrid power system having a synchronous generator for a wind energy conversion system and a synchronous generator for a diesel generator. A variable source of reactive power such as static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is used for minimization the gap between reactive power generation and demand. The mathematical model of this system which is used for simulation is based on smal–signal analysis. This paper also shows dynamic performance of hybrid system with and without perturbation in input wind power plus 1% step increase in reactive power load. By placement of synchronous generator in this system, it is seen that the voltage and reactive power system disturbances both improved in terms of overshoot and undershoot and settling time.<\div>
