Series FACTS Devices such as TCSC, with its ability to directly control the power flow can be very effective to improve the operation of transmission network. In this paper, a corrective solution for congestion management by using TCSC has been reviewed. A harmony search algorithm for optimal utilization of this device is proposed for congestion management with the increasing social welfare while usage cost associated with the TCSC is not taken into account. The simulation results were successfully tested on a 5 bus system. Analyzing the result with and without TCSC confirms that this device is appropriate for a long time congestion management<\div>

Optimal placement and sizing of DG in distribution network is an optimization problem with continuous and discrete variables. Many researchers have used evolutionary methods for finding the optimal DG placement and sizing. This paper proposes a harmony search algorithm (HSA) for optimal placement and sizing of distributed generation (DG) in radial distribution system to minimize the total power loss and improve the voltage profile. The proposed harmony search algorithm is used to determine optimal sizes and locations of multi–DGs. Test results indicate that HSA method can obtain better results than an existing analytical method on the IEEE 33–bus system. Moreover, voltage profile improvement and branch current reduction are obtained<\div>
