Monitoring and maintaining oil quality is essential in ensuring the reliable operation of oil–filled electrical equipment. Mineral oil in service is subject to deterioration due to the conditions of use. Eventually the oil may reach a state where it is no longer suitable for further use and cannot perform its function. A testing regime can allow corrective action to be taken prior to oil reaching this state and thus avoiding catastrophic failure of the equipment. Electrical power authorities and power companies use a code of practice established for this purpose. The common practice is to either replace or reclaim the oil. The management of oil – supply, storage and disposal – is currently a big issue due to the restrictions and environmental legislation imposed. Therefore, the equipment owner should make every effort to manage and minimize adverse impact on the environment by its activities. This paper discusses the latest techniques for managing oil in service and considers end of life decisions such as reclamation, replacement and disposal. There is a focus on options which are considered acceptable to the UK Environment Agency and current local legislations. The paper also discusses the PCB issue and management of risk by assessment for destruction and disposal of PCB.<\div>

There is demand for electricity availability and this demand is continuously growing. As result asset owner has responsibility to make sure their equipment are operational and available. To increase availability proper maintenance program play an important rule and for planning maintenance asset condition monitoring is require. International experience indicating dissolved gas analysis can be implemented for monitoring condition of oil filled equipment and been used since early 1970. This technique is relatively simple inexpensive and very informative. DGA is also used for monitoring condition of oil filled bushings. This paper reporting interpretation of dissolved gas analysis for oil samples taken from bushings.<\div>

The use of ultra high voltage electrical equipment in modern day transmission systems is increasingly being used in many countries, the main drivers being safety, reliability and ease of transport of electricity with minimum loss. These equipments are expensive and need to be reliable and viable all time. Insulating liquid is used for insulation and cooling in this equipment and this liquid plays an important role in the safe operation of these units. Insulating liquid used in UHV transmission is constantly subjected to high electrical stress, which could lead to oil and paper deterioration. As a result, oil looses its electrical properties with an increase in DDF. Clearly such oil is not fit for purpose as high DDF of the oil leads to electrical losses in the equipment, consequently, insulation deterioration and equipment failure. Therefore oil selection for UHV is an important factor and oil with high resistance to deterioration, good electrical properties and high cooling efficiency should be used. It is also important that such oil is able to sustain these properties during service life of these units. There are oils available in the market being beyond the severe requirements of IEC 60296, High Grade Oil. Such oils are used for UHV and are usually referred to Super Grade Oil. To produce such oil, selection of correct crude oil, refining technique and knowledge of proper use of distillates for production of Super Grade Oil is vital. Viscosity index of the oil plays an important role for heat dissipation and oil with high solvent power are preferred option. Pour Point is also complemented to the above factors and can influence performance of the oil over the life of the equipment.<\div>

۴Update on Dissolved Gases Analysis for condition monitoring of Generator Step Up Transformers

Dissolved gas analysis is power tools used for monitoring incipient faults in oil filed high voltage electrical equipment, in particular transformers. Application of this technique will help to monitor condition of transformers in–service. The methodology for analysis of dissolved gases was developed over 40 years and until today, is the most widely and accepted method of diagnostic used by power utilities and transformer manufacturer for the identification of incipient faults. Since its creation and dissemination in the Electrical Sector, there were improvements in the analytical instruments, extraction techniques, interpretation of results and even in the aterials used for construction of the equipment. The authors conducted a survey of the state of the art of the method, evaluate the influence of these changes and examine other aspects of the diagnostic such as the formation of gas due to partial discharges, insulating paper, stray gassing or unexpected interactions among raw materials.<\div>
