۱Investigation of Stress Distribution Around the Holes In Multi–fastened Joints

This paper is devoted to determination of contact and tangential stresses around circular pin holes in a multifastener pin–plate problem which is of significant use in many mechanical structures. Because of the complexity of analytical methods and limitations of experimental approaches, here it was found more convenient to employ a finite element computational method to investigate the stress distribution around each hole. A similar analysis has been carried out by Yavari et al. [1]; yet it was limited to a single–hole pin–plate problem while multi–fasteners are of great importance in mechanically fastened joints. This work concerns some design parameters such as number of holes, location of holes, hole diameters mismatch in order to evaluate the effect of each one on the safety of the joint. According to the obtained results, in order to make the joint safer,for a certain number of holes their centerline–the line connecting the holes’ centers–should be perpendicular rather than being parallel to the plate length. Also it’s observed that for double–hole plates with centerline parallel to the length of the plate, the larger the second hole–the hole nearer to the load edge– the safer the joint.<\div>
