Water is the most important and essential component on the earth for vital activities of living beings. Water contamination is a very important problem in the current world. Considerable attention has been paid to methods for metal removal from industrial wastewaters. Adsorption technology has been considered as an economic, efficient and promising technology in wastewater treatment. Nanosize iron oxides adsorbents are classified as the promising ones for water treatment due to their unique chemical and physical properties. Among the various Nanosized iron oxides; hematite is one of the most attractive and technologically important ones. The preparation and characterization of these adsorbent are the first and foremost steps in water treatment by nanotechnology. In this research uniform α–Fe2O3 nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol–gel method by using FeCl3 as a reagents. The morphology and structure of products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, X–ray powder diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that hematite(α–Fe2O3) nanoparticles had a homogen and uniform particles. XRD pattern indicates that the α–Fe2O3 product was well crystallized. The crystalline size of α–Fe2O3 was found to be 25 nm.<\div>
