۱Effect of Parthenium hysterophorus extracts on causal agent of leaf blight of wheat

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of aqueous and acetone extracts of Parthenium hysterophorus on causal organism of leaf blight of wheat (Alternaria triticina) under field condition. Plant growth characters of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were significantly enhanced with the application of aqueous and acetone extracts of P. hysterophorus. Although, maximum plant growth was noticed in acetone extract of both i.e. leaves and root. It also had significant effect on shoot and root length, dry weight of shoot, root and 1000 seeds weight over control. Aqueous and acetone extracts of leaves was lesser effect than root extract. Ratio of dry weight of shoot\root was maximum in case of aqueous extract of leaves, whereas, the minimum was observed in aqueous extract of Parthenium root. Effectiveness of the tested plant (P. hysterophorus) was also compared with known fungicide i.e. Dithane–M45.<\div>

۲Evaluation of resistance of some tomato varieties against root–knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita)

The experiment was conducted at site infested with root–knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) having 2 j2\g of soil to evaluate the reaction of twelve varieties of tomato under field condition. The data indicated that number of galls\root system was ranging from 6–215. The minimum number of galls\root system was noticed in case of Mobile variety by 6, whereas, Royal variety showed maximum number of galls\root system (215). On the basis of this experiment Mobile variety was resistant to root–knot nematode followed by Super Queen variety which showed moderate resistance. Royal variety was considered as highly susceptible one to root–knot nematode. The result indicated that Mobile variety could be used as source of resistance in breeding programme of tomato against M. incognita.<\div>

۳Antifungal activity of volatile oil of Eucalyptus camaldulensis against Fusarium wilt of tomato

The objective of experiment was to evaluate the antifungal activity of essential volatile oil extracted from E. camaldulensis against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici, the causal agent of tomato wilt under laboratory condition using Food Poison Technique. The radial growth, fresh and dry weights of test fungus was reduced significantly in response to the essential volatile oil. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was documented 100 ppm in both of essential volatile oil and Mancozeb in case of radial growth and fresh weight of test pathogen, whereas, minimum fungicide concentration (MFC) were observed at 8000 and 6000 ppm in case of radial growth and fresh weight of essential volatile oil , respectively. The maximum effect on different parameters of tested pathogen was recorded at 8000 ppm. Based on the study, it was concluded that essential volatile oil of E. camaldulensis has potential for the suppression of phytopathogenic fungi.<\div>

۴Impact of Trichoderma spp. against Fusarium wilt of Brassica oleraceae

Efficacy of five species of the Trichoderma namely: hamatum, harzianum, koningi, longiconis and viride were tested for their relative bio–control impact to inhibit the radial growth of the wilt pathogen of Brassica oleraceae under laboratory condition using dual culture method. Among them, T. harzianum was found to be the most effective antagonist followed by T. hamatum, T. longiconis and T. koningi. Trichoderma viride was found to be ineffective. In glasshouse pot culture sowing of B. oleraceae seeds coated with T. harzianum spores in artificially made Fusarium infested soil could not reduce wilt, whereas, applying of soil with biomass formulation of T. harzianum in maize meal sand medium @ 43–63 g\kg soil caused significant disease reduction of wilt disease up to 80% as compared to control.<\div>

۵Studies on phytopathogenic fungus and root – knot nematode on Sesamum indicum

A study has been made to evaluate the effect of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. sesami and Meloidogyne javanica at varied inoculum levels on sesame (Sesamum indicum) under pot condition. There was corresponding increase in wilt incidence of tested plant in time interval as well as inoculum level. Complete wilting of all lower leaves was recorded after 15 days of inoculation at the highest inoculum (4 g) mycelial mat \ pot. Slightly drooping of lower leaves was documented after 30 days of inoculation, when the plant exposed to 2 g mycelial mat \ pot. When the plants were inoculated at 2 j2 \ g soil caused significant reduction in growth of tested plant. Both the pathogens simultaneously or 10 days prior the other one revealed early expression of wilt symptoms in the treatments where fungus and nematode were inoculated simultaneously (N + F) or nematode was inoculated 10 days prior to fungus.<\div>

۶Antifungal properties of some medicinal plant against anthracnose disease of Capsicum annuum L.

The antifungal activity of ethanol extract of seven medicinal plants namely: Acasianilotica, Ageratum conyzoidas, Cissus qandragularis, Coccinia indica, Lowsonia inermis,Morinja oifera and Oxalis qutisella were evaluated against Colletotrichum capsici, the causalpathogen of anthracnose disease of chilli under laboratory condition. Various plant extractresulted inhibition on the growth of mycelium of tested pathogen in varied range from 12 to80 percent. The maximum percent of mycelial inhibition was recorded in case of L. inermis,whereas, minimum percent of inhibition of pathogen was documented in case of C. indicaextract.<\div>
