This paper presents optimization of bead geometry in Electron Beam Welding (EBW) process using of Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA). Minimization of the weld area is considered as objective. Generally, in welding process, weld bead geometry and weld quality are, in most parts, depend on welding parameters, thus the weld quality is usually measured in terms of weld bead geometry which that includes weld height, width and penetration. Therefore, in this study, an attempt was made to minimize the weld area, after satisfying the condition of maximum bead penetration using of Imperialist Competitive Algorithm. ICA has demonstrated excellent capabilities such as simplicity, accuracy, faster convergence and better global optimum achievement. The results of ICA were finally compared with the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The outcome shows the success of ICA in optimizing the weld bead geometry.<\div>

۲Optimization of Ultrasonic welding process using Imperialist Competitive Algorithm

In this paper Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) is applied to determine the optimum welding conditions that maximize the strength of joints produced by ultrasonic welding. Imperialist Competitive Algorithm is inspired by imperialistic competition mechanism and has shown some advantages such as simplicity, accuracy, and time saving in comparison with evolutionary algorithms. A case study from literature is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. In this regard, the imperialist competitive algorithm is utilized to predict weld strength by incorporating process parameters such as pressure, weld time and amplitude in ultrasonic welding process. The numerical results reveal that ICA can find optimum welding condition with higher accuracy in less computational time when compared to conventional Genetic Algorithm (GA).<\div>

۳A novel approach for optimum designing of cold–formed steel channel beams

The great flexibility of cross–sectional profiles of cold–formed steel makes the selection of the most economical section difficult for a particular situation. In this paper, the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) is used to find optimum cross–sectional profiles of cold–formed steel beams for various load level. The Imperialist Competitive Algorithm as a socio–politically inspired optimization strategy is inspired by competition mechanism among Imperialists and colonies, in contrast to evolutionary algorithms. To validate the proposed approach, the results of ICA were finally compared with the Genetic Algorithm (GA). Based on the results, ICA has demonstrated excellent capabilities such as accuracy, faster convergence and better global optimum achievement<\div>
