Selection of the best irrigation system for a given field conditions is a multicriteria decision– making problem. A model for selecting an optimized irrigation system was developed by considering socio–economic and the physical criteria. The optimization process was accomplished using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). For sub–criteria factors such as relative acceptability of an irrigation system, technical support requirements, system costs, labor skills and value of crop were considered for socio – economic criteria and for the physical criteria factors such as water, climate, topography and soil were considered. AHP demonstrated certain advantages by enabling the decision maker to look at various diagrams at the same time and to semantically compare decision elements only two at a time, while controlling its level of consistency to remain under tolerant limit. The results of this study were shown as scales and all kind of common irrigation systems were considered. Respectively, Low pressure irrigation system, Surface irrigation systems and Hand Move Irrigation System were found to be the best selections for this region.<\div>
