This work has been carried out towards a low emission, high energy density combustion burner that does not operate with free flames. The entire combustion takes place in a porous matrix. A one dimensional model is used to solve the governing equations for porous medium and gas flow. Combustion in the porous medium is modeled as a spatially dependent heat generation zone. In order to analyze the transient thermal characteristics of porous burners, the coupled energy equations for the gas and porous medium based on two–flux radiation model are solved numerically and the effect of various factors on the performance of porous radiant burners are determined. Comparison between the present results with those obtained by other investigators shows a good agreement.<\div>

Within geographical boundaries of the Islamic Republic of Iran, there is a large number of potential sites with solar insolation levels above 1800 kWh\m2.yr, in fact a basic need for very existence of any Solar Thermal Power Plant (STPP), comparable to the best solar sites anywhere in the world. Although vast volumes of natural gas as well as crude oil lies beneath the territory, Iran recognizes i I's responsibility towards the global efforts to preserve the earth's environment by switching into clean energy sources. such as solar.
The evaluation of various key factors encountered in site selection for the first STPP in Iran has led to recognition of Yazd with high priority among the potential regions. Technological advances governed in the field of large scale STPPs specifically Parabolic Trough Electricity Generators known as SEGS ensures dependable mid to base load power production with the benefits of reduces unwanted gas emissions as well as conservation of precious national oil & gas resources.
Although the SEGS technology is commercially available in different solar field arrangements or operating modes,but it requires higher specific investment cost in comparison to conventional fossil fired steam, gas or combined cycle power plants. This drawback is expected to fade upto
50% of the total investment cost simply by utilization of domestic design & engineering abilities, material and equipment . Results of the feasibility study is a major step towards introduction of solar thermal electricity into the national grid as well as attraction of world bank funds and the other international grants.<\div>

۳Study Results for Construction of Integrated Solar Combined Cycle System in Iran

In 1997 the Iranian Power Development Organization (IPDO), contracted the Electric Power Research Institute (now named NIROO Research Institute (N.R.I)), Pilkington Solar International (now named FLABEG Solar International) and Fichtner (now Fichtner Solar) to execute a comprehensive Feasibility Study. N.R.I was responsible for the site selection, analysis of implementation strategy in Iranian electricity sector context, and analysis of local manufacturing capabilities, FLABEG Solar for the solar field lay–out and design, economic and financial analysis and structuring of project financing. Fichtner Solar took responsibility for the optimization of the combined cycle retrofit and optimal integration
of the solar field technology into this cycle. The specific aim of this feasibility study was to evaluate which solar thermal configuration is best suited to enlarge and improve the existing power plant complex, both technically as well as economical.<\div>

۴Reliability and validity of the Iranian version of the human immunodeficiency virus specific World Health Organization quality of life BREF questionnaire

Background & Aim: Quality–of–life (QOL) among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–infected people has been the center of focus worldwide. The World Health Organization QOL Group (WHOQOL Group) has developed a 31–item QOL questionnaire, which has been translated and used in many countries. This paper aimed at examining the reliability and validity of Persian version of HIV specific WHOQOL scaleBREF questionnaire (WHOQOL–HIV BREF) in Iranian patients suffering from HIV\acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).Methods & Materials: For the purpose of this cross–sectional study, a standard “forward– backward” translation and cognitive debriefing were initially applied. Subsequently, 150 people living with HIV\AIDS visitingTertiary Referral Consultation Center for clients with risky behaviors in Tehran completed the Persian version of the questionnaire. Validity was assessed using “Known Group Comparison” through ANOVA test. Internal reliability was measured by Cronbach’s alpha and Split–Half coefficients.Results: WHOQOL–HIV BREF was capable to discriminate between two groups who were different in their QOL (P 0.05). Internal consistency analysis was satisfactory for domains (Cronbach’s alpha =0.64–0.85), and whole the instrument (Cronbach’s alpha=0.93).Conclusion: The Persian version of WHOQOL–HIV BREF is a reliable and valid instrument to assess the QOL among Iranian HIV–infected population.
