Turbine blades are subjected to degradation by embrittlement, creep, thermal fatigue ,oxidation and synergistic effects among the above. Development of techniques to assess the extent of degradation of the blades under these conditions have a significant and favourable economic impact. The present study investigates the use of Monkman–Grant and the modified Monkman–Grant equation for the life prediction of IN738 blades on the basis of creep data.<\div>

In this paper, an analytic solution to the axisymmetric problem of a radially polarized, piezoelectric hollow cylinder was developed. The stresses in multi–layered elasto–piezoelectric composite cylinders in the state of axisymmetric plane strain were obtained. Variation of hoop stresses in the metal layer because of piezoelectric layer were investigated. Finally, the effects of different boundary conditions as well as piezoelectric materials on the stress state of the metal layer were studied.<\div>
