A series of MxOy–CeO2 catalysts were prepared and their catalyst performance for oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) was evaluated. A series of Calcium, vanadium or manganese supported CeO2 catalyst are studied catalysts in oxidative coupling of methane reaction. Ca, V and Mn have individual roles during the OCM reaction, in providing the selectivity and activity of the catalyst system. The interaction effects of the component component and component support on the methane conversion and C2+ yield were investigated with the aid of Fourier Transformed Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Uv–vis and catalytic activity tests. The catalyst performance was studied at an operating temperature of 775 °C a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 3333 cm3\g h, a catalyst pre–treatment period of 2 h, a dilution ratio of 0.2, and a CH4\N2\CO2 ratio of 2\1\1. V2O5–CeO2 catalyst has the most selectivity for the formation of ethene and ethane among all the catalysts tested in this study.<\div>
