۱Study of the effect of storage tank capacity on electricity consumption and solar fraction in solar adsorption cooling system

This paper presents a theoretical investigation of solar driven silica gel–water adsorption cooling system. In order to provide 24–hour air conditioning an auxiliary heater was utilized. A computer simulation program has been developed to evaluate the system performance in terms of solar fraction and average cooling capacity, using meteorological data of Tehran, Iran. The influence of storage tank capacity on auxiliary energy consumption, solar fraction and daily cooling power has been investigated. The results indicated that decrease of storage tank capacity from 400 L to 30 L decreases auxiliary energy consumption by 47% with a 3.34–fold increase in solar fraction and 27% increase of daily average cooling capacity. Furthermore, when a hot water storage tank is employed, a maximum of 8.058 kW daily average cooling power and a maximum solar fraction of 0.79 are obtained with a tank capacity of 30 L.<\div>

۲Effects of long term administration of testosterone and estradiol on spatial memory in rats

There are many discrepancies around the effect of sex hormones on spatial learning and memory in rodents. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of chronic administration of estradiol (ES) and testosterone (TES) on spatial memory in adult castrated male rats. Cholinesterase activity of the hippocampus in treated animals was also measured to seek if hormonal treatment can change the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in this region. Six groups of castrated male rats received different doses of ES valerate (1, 4, 10 mg\kg, by subcutaneous, sc) and TES enanthate (10, 20, 40 mg\kg, sc) in weekly injection intervals for 6 weeks. Morris water maze (MWM) was used to assess the spatial reference memory of the rats. The specific activity of AChE in the hippocampus was also measured. The treatment duration and the dose quantity of ES had significant (P0.001 and P=0.048, respectively) effect on the learning ability in the rats. For TES treated rats, treatment duration showed a significant effect (P0.001) on learning performance of the rats. The activity of AChE compared to the control group was significantly increased in ES treated rats in a dose dependent manner and it was decreased in the group that received the highest dose of TES. Our results showed that chronic high dose of ES decreased the learning ability of male castrated rats in a reference memory version of MWM test. This can be explained by the decreased AChE activity in the hippocampus.

۳Multiple infections in shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei broodstock in commercial hatcheries in Khouzestan Province

The present study was carried out to investigate the status of health and disease, and their impact on shrimp broodstock (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Khouzestan Province (Choeibde Area) in the south of Iran. From March 2012 until April 2013, about 140 broodstock and 5000 postlarvae (PLs) were collected from hatcheries and grow out farms. Clinical signs of samples were documented in take history forms and then the samples were transported to Iranian South Aquaculture Institute (Ahvaz). Bacterial and fungal studies were carried out on hemolymph, hepatopancreas and gill tissue and then the shrimps were preserved in Davidson Fixative for histopathology. A part of uropods was also preserved in ethyl alcohol for PCR study and detecting three viruses, WSSV, TSV and IMNV. A part of PLs was also preserved in ethyl alcohol for PCR and the remaining was preserved in Davidson Fixative for histopathology. The results showed that 5 bacteria consisting of Vibrio alginolyticus, V. proteolyticus, V. mimicus, A. hydrophila and Plesiomonas shigelloides and one fungi Aspergillus fumigatus were identified. The results of PCR exhibited that the broodstock was free of the three viruses and the PL was infected with WSSV. In histopathology some tissues showed the effects of Vibrio infection in different organs such as gill and midgut, and the infection of PL tissues showed the Cowdry type A inclusion bodies in WSSV. Two specific signs of abnormality were also exhibited in histopathology that we call them Pseudo inclusion and Reolike particles and we need to conduct a new study to clarify detailed information about these finding. This finding can be used for assessing the health of shrimp culture and prevention of disease in broodstock in Iran.
