Powdered activated carbon (PAC) has been synthesized from walnut shell based on physical activation through a full scale process plant. High specific surface area (around 1400–1700 m2 g–1) and favorable methylene blue adsorption (around 100 g per 1 g PAC in 30 min) were obtained. It was found that the produced PAC offers favorable standard characters e.g., ID number, ash and moisture content, BET and so on, based on ASTM reference. Scanning electron microscopy and FTIR analyses showed that the PACs have a uniformly developed microporous structure with abundant active sites and a narrow pore size distribution ranged from 0.8 to 1.6 μm<\div>
