۱IMPROVED ALGORITHM FOR CONTINGENCY ANALYSIS BY THE ADJOINT NETWORK METHOD

In spite of its low time requirements, the adjoint network method has not gained a wider acceptance as a tool for contingency analysis. One of the reasons was relatively inaccurate calculation of the network node voltages following a disturbance. The algorithms bridging this problem were developed and reported as time consuming. The paper ofiers an improved algorithm for node voltage determination based on the original adjoint network relations. For its testing, the standard and other test systems were selected for various loading conditions. Considerably improved accuracy in node voltages calculation is demonstrated for the selected systems. The results can be compared to the fast decoupled power flow results and are in some cases even better than those of IPIQ method. Moreover, the time requirements for large scale systems are kept within the same order of magnitude of the original algorithm, that is considerably lower than for 1P1Q method.<\div>

۲HYDRO POWER PLANT WATER INFLOW FORECASTING USING NEURAL NETWORKS

In the paper, a new method for forecast of natural inflow into the reservoir of the upstream hydro power plant is described. Water inflow forecasting is usually based on the precipitation data collected by the ombrometers situated in the river basin. Due to highly non–linear nature of mathematical relation between the amount of precipitation and water inflow, the problem to be solved is rather complex. In the paper, a new approach to water inflow forecasting based on neural networks is presented. First, selection of input parameters is discussed. Next, preparation of needed data is described and the most appropriate architecture of the neural network is chosen. Finally, efficacy of the proposed method is tested for a practical case and some results are presented. For that purpose, preliminary investigation on advantages of implementing the neural network based algorithm for water inflow forecast was conducted for Soca river hydro system in Slovenia.<\div>

With 35% of total power generation provided by its three cascaded hydro systems, scheduling of hydro power plants plays a very important role in optimizing the performance of Slovenian power system. In the paper, an improved procedure for short term operational planning is presented. This paper focuses on hydro subproblem, i.e. how to schedule individual hydro plants for maximizing the value of stored water at the end of study period. Moreover, a software package that is to be integrated into existing EMS in the local control centers is presented. It consists of three main modules: water inflow forecasting, detailed simulation of cascaded hydro system and optimal scheduling module. The proposed procedure has been tested against a number of operational scenarios for a real cascaded hydro system and important improvements in system operating efficiency have been observed.<\div>
